ABOUT ME

Welcome! I’m Dr. Ayanna Troutman, a postdoctoral research fellow and practitioner driven by a commitment to justice, care, and creativity. My work is guided by a deep respect for the lived experiences of Black girls and the communities that shape them.

As someone who grew up attending schools sometimes labeled “underserved,” and later returned to those spaces as a clinician and researcher, I’ve witnessed firsthand the power of community-rooted resilience. That journey fuels my desire to build relationships, shift systems, and co-create solutions that affirm rather than pathologize.

Whether I’m in classrooms, clinics, or community centers, I lead with purpose, curiosity, and collaboration. You can download my CV below to learn more about my academic background, professional experience, and current work.

I deepened my focus on mental health equity through clinical training and community-based research, using participatory methods to center the experiences of Black girls in alternative schools at UF.

Spelman shaped my commitment to Black girlhood and community-rooted scholarship. I began mentoring and building the foundation for my advocacy and research here.

I developed a love for learning and leadership at the L&N STEM Academy, and that foundation continues to inspire my work to expand access and affirm young people in educational spaces.
